KOREA ELECTRIC POWER CORPORATION HEADQUARTERS
In 2009, the Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) announced a competition for their new headquarters, to be located in Naju, a new planned city in southwest Korea. The headquarters, which would include nearly 120,000 square meters of office space and public exhibition program, would constitute a major anchor point in the new center city. KEPCO outlined an ambitious program of objectives for the facilities, coinciding with a vision to become one of top 5 utility companies in the world, representing the latest technologies in energy efficiency and green design.
H Associates collaborated with Haeahn to design a new, 21st century paradigm of office space, which included public programs distributed horizontally around the site and integrated into the landscape. A vertical landmark is created with the main office tower, thereby anchoring the site and generating the iconic status to represent the new face of KEPCO. Also integrated into the landscape are a number of sustainable design features, including wind turbines, rainwater collection elements, and a comprehensive design to ensure optimum solar shading and ventilation.
